James McKenzie
James Richard Milne McKenzie, 73, of Opihihale died March 13, 2014, at his residence. Born Feb. 12, 1941, in Detroit, he was an auto mechanic and an Air Force veteran.
Friends may call at noon March 21 for a service and inurnment at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by daughters, Lisa (Kevin) O’Keefe of Montara, Calif., Dawn McKenzie of Opihihale; sons, David (Jody) McKenzie of Portland, Ore., Jon McKenzie of Opihihale; brother, John (Anna) McKenzie of St. Claire Shores, Mich.; sister, Joan McKenzie of Clear Lake, Calif.; six grandchildren; two nephews.

Eleanor Chow
Eleanor “Granny” Chow, 91, of Hilo died March 16, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Waiakea, she was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. March 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.
She is survived by son, Jim Chow of Pahoa; daughters, Elaine (Leo) Christian of Hilo, Diane Chow of Hale Kamahina; brother, Thomas Rapoza of Hilo; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roger Hawes
Roger William Hawes, 77, of Volcano died March 10, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 28, 1936, in Multnomah County, Ore., he was the proprietor of Roger’s Keaau Junction Restaurant &Bar and Hawes Brothers Auto Service, the manager of the Gresham Elks Club, member of the Kilauea Golf Club, an umpire and Hawaii state director for the North American Fastpitch Association and an umpire for Amateur Softball Association of America.
Private services were held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Amateur Softball Association’s Girls Program or University of Hawaii at Hilo, Girls Softball Program in his name. Norine Luann Madrona, 79, of Hilo died March 2, 2014, at her residence. Born in North Dakota, she was a retired operator services manager.

Amy Yuriko Takajo, 82, of Hilo died Feb. 25, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 1, 1932, in Hilo, she was retired from Bank of Hawaii, a Retired Senior Volunteer Program volunteer at Waiakeawaena School and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan, Buddhist Women’s Association and University Extension Club.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
She is survived by husband, Mareo Takajo of Hilo; daughter, Gwendolyn Sakoda of Hilo; son, Sheldon (Lynette) Takajo of Hilo; brother, Paul Kodama of Hilo; sisters, Violet Eguchi of Pearl City, Oahu, Doris (Patrick) Masutomi of Kona; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lily Chieko Arikawa, 92, of Hilo died March 3, 2014, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Paauhau, she was a retired manager with the former Del Monte Papaya, member of Hilo Daijingu and owner of the former Skipper’s Cove Restaurant.

She is survived by son, Russell (Carol Ginoza-Arikawa) Arikawa of Hilo; daughter, Diana (Ben) Akiyama of Hilo; brother, Fred Kukita of Los Angeles; sisters, Alice Masada of Kailua-Kona, Thelma (Takeshi) Matsumoto of Holualoa, Judy (Alberto) Esquitin of Chicago, Betty Perry of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
